ALBUQUERQUE, NM - The "Crazy Life" for 5 time world champion boxer Johnny Tapia came to an end on Sunday May 27th as the Albuquerque Police was called to his residence around 7:45 PM.
According to spokesman Robert Gibbs "a family member came home and found him deceased and foul play was not suspected."
The champ lived "a crazy life" as he struggled with drug addictions, suicide, mental illnesses as well as coming close to death five time due to drug overdoses. His life was in fact crazy as he experienced things many of us could never imagine. His father left before he was born and his mother was kidnapped and murdered when he was 8.
Being "one of the greatest fighters ever" as Mike Tyson called him, he soared to a record of 59 wins with 30 of them by KO, 5 losses and 2 draws. Johnny was a beast in the ring and the reasoning behind his ferocity is that he saw every opponent as his mother's killer.
Johnny Tapia by far put New Mexico on the map and won the hearts of all though his boxing talent and his love for everyone in the community. Johnny's last fight was in June of 2011.
